Here at SERO Sailing, we’ve always believed that our role extends far beyond building boats. It’s about preserving a legacy, nurturing the next generation of sailors, and supporting the strong community that has kept the Sunfish spirit alive for decades.

To celebrate the 2025 Giving Tuesday, we have introduced a new way to give back: an annually awarded fund created to give back a little extra to support camps and sailing programs who are shaping future sailors. Inspired by the resilience and unity of the Sunfish community, we launched this initiative with one goal in mind: to uplift those who keep the sport and community thriving.

Camp La Junta

For our inaugural year, we chose to support Camp La Junta, who suffered devastating flood damage and lost their entire fleet of Sunfish sailboats. Camp La Junta is a long-standing boys’ summer camp in Texas Hill Country. Focused on increasing self-confidence through a variety of activities, the camp prides itself on helping the next generation learn resilience, responsibility, and leadership. Although the flood may have taken down their buildings and fleets, it cannot take away their purpose. Their story is a powerful reminder of why this community matters, and why giving back is so important.

Former camper at Camp La Junta David Nelson reached out to SERO for help… “Camp La Junta is a boys camp that started in 1928. I learned to sail there on the Guadalupe River over 30 years ago and now have taught my 12 year old son Cooper (picture of us in Galveston Bay) how to sail in our Sunfish as well as teach Small Boat Sailing merit badge for our Boy Scout Troop in Houston. This all started because of what I learned many summers ago at La Junta.”

How can you help Camp La Junta

As we extend our support to Camp La Junta during their time of rebuilding, many have asked how they can help directly. The most immediate need to get the boys sailing next summer are donations of Sunfish, Sunfish Parts, or cash to buy them.

If you have a Sunfish that you are ready to pass on, please do not hesitate to reach out. It doesn’t matter how far away the boats are. Together, we can help Camp La Junta get back on the water and maintain the spirit of Sunfish sailing at their camp for years to come.

You can make a tax-deductible donation to “Friends of Camp La Junta” CampLaJunta

SERO Support Fund

We invite you to be part of this journey. Each year, camps and programs can apply to the SERO Support Fund by sharing your story and what your needs are with us through social media. The chosen benefactor will be announced on Giving Tuesday with the donation being made early the following year. While we wish we could support every program, sadly we will have to choose one per year to donate a portion of our proceeds from our annual holiday sale. Together, we can help preserve the joy of sailing for generations to come. The passion and perseverance of the Sunfish community gives us purpose behind every boat we build. Your stories, your dedication, and your love for the sport are what inspire us to keep pushing forward and preserve a legacy that truly belongs to all of us.
