Summer camps have unique needs when it comes to sailboats. They require boats that are safe, easy to teach on, durable, and exciting enough to keep campers of all ages engaged. At SERO we have a passion for supporting the amazing adventure that summer camps facilitate and have chosen our lineup intentionally with these exact needs in mind. Each boat we offer is designed to support sailors from their first launch through their continued development in the sport, while also withstanding the heavy use they receive from thousands of campers each year.
SERO builds the Sunfish, SOL, or SOL-R which are all built with modern manufacturing techniques offering improved quality, durability, simplified repairs, and eliminating waterlogging.
Fusion Sailboats are rotomolded HDPE boats from the UK which include the Fusion I, Fusion II, or Maverick. SERO has partnered with Fusion to distribute these boats in North America as they are a modern low-maintenance and versatile option for summer camps.
Each boat we offer to the camp market has been carefully chosen with those core values in mind to ensure that we are offering you the most reliable product on the market.
Of course, all boats occasionally require service. That’s why we maintain a nationwide dealer network where you can purchase boats and parts. When service is needed, you’ll have a trusted local partner ready to help.
The Sunfish
Originally developed in 1952 with over 300,000 built, the Sunfish has introduced more people to sailing than any other boat. Its simple rigging and durability made it a staple at summer camps by the 1960s, and it remains one today.
Now manufactured by SERO Sailing, the Sunfish continues its legacy with new production techniques and modern materials, while remaining accessible, affordable, and fun as ever.
Why camps love it:
- Simple, stable, and reliable
- Durable and lightweight
- Ideal for teaching fundamentals and independence
The SOL
The SOL embodies the joy of sailing with your friends and family. Designed with the same Sunfish bottom hull with a new deck designed for more space and durability, it offers a stable yet exciting platform that works great for coaches who would prefer to be in the boat with campers. All components including the rig, sail, bailer, daggerboard, and rudder are the same as the Sunfish.
Its composite hull, ergonomic design, and durable construction make it well-suited for the daily demands of camp programs, while still delivering an exhilarating experience on the water.
Why camps love it:
- Improved deck design for more strength and space
- Same simple and reliable rig as the Sunfish
- Durable for high-usage programs
- Deck comes with a molded in splashguard and a ridge for more strength on the foredeck, preventing opportunities for breakages.
- An optional extended splashguard and SeaDek can be added.
The SOL-R
While it is not widely advertised, SERO also builds the SOL-R offers which is an updated take on the classic Sunfish design with newly incorporation design and manufacturing features.
Built with the same hull and cockpit platform, it incorporates a raised deck ridge and integrated splashguard for increased durability and reliability. If your camp has ever broken a coaming or foredeck, the SOL-R will help prevent these issues. The largest sailing summer camp in the country has been enjoying their SOL-Rs since 2024.
Fusion I
The Fusion I is a modern, durable sailboat built to support instruction and recreation in busy camp programs. It’s stable hull, roomy cockpit and easy handling allow instructors to focus on teaching while students build confidence quickly.
Designed with a nearly indestructible HDPE hull, the Fusion I keeps maintenance low and boats on the water all season long. It comes standard with a main sail, with optional jib and gennaker configurations to support skill progression as sailors advance.
Why camps love it:
- Easy rigging and launching
- Stable, confidence-building platforms
- Lightweight and spacious design
- Low maintenance HDPE hull that reduces downtime
- Robust aluminum daggerboard and kick-up rudder
Fusion II
The Fusion II expands on the versatility of the Fusion I, offering additional capacity and sail options ideal for instruction and team-based learning. Its spacious cockpit and stable design make it suitable for a wide range of ages and skill levels.
The Fusion II comes standard with a main and jib, with optional gennaker and keel configurations. The keel option makes it the only HDPE boat that can be comfortable moored, offering added flexibility for camps and summer programs.
Why camps love it:
- Spacious ergonomic cockpit for instruction
- Stable yet next level exciting performance
- Multiple sail plan options
- Durable, low-maintenance construction
Maverick
The Maverick redefines versatility as the ultimate watersports board, or the ‘Swiss Army Knife’ of sailboats. Designed to function as a sailboat, windsurfer, wing foil board, and SUP, it allows camps to expand programming without expanding storage or maintenance needs.
Compact, easy to store, and accessible for beginners, the Maverick supports a wide range of lesson plans – from paddle boarding to sailing, and even windsurfing!
Why camps love it:
- Multi-discipline learning
- Great platform for sailing or fun on no wind days
- Low maintenance hull
- Thin hull for easy storage
- Flexible programming options
- Two different sailboat rigs, one that can be furled around the mast or a larger squaretop battened sail
